Unit 7 The new contemporary ages

The Earth Part 2

The troposphere is the lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere. Most of the mass (about 75-80%) of the atmosphere is in the troposphere. Most types of clouds are found in the troposphere, and almost all weather occurs within this layer. The troposphere is by far the wettest layer of the atmosphere (all of the other layers contain very little moisture).

Unit 9 English

Guidelines for doing a good notebook

Your notebook is very important.

A cover (one page on the right side) with the title of the unit and the number. You can add some drawings and some basic vocabulary with decorations. Also include the type of grammar that you are going to practice.

A list of vocabulary with drawings. Dom't make the drawings too small. Make them big enough to remember them. Don't use ink that is too strong and bleeds through the paper.

Margins, titles and underline. Use catchy colours. Don't use too much yellow, you won't be able to read. Write with good wirting in straight lines.

Make a drawing of the solar system. You can go to the web to get cool photos.

Include a table with the second conditional. For example:

Add examples. Lots of examples. Like the following:

1. If I were offered a job in a different country, I would seriously consider moving there to gain international experience and learn about a new culture.

2. If she were more confident in her abilities, she would apply for that high-profile position and likely excel in it.

3. If we had more time to plan the event, we would be able to create a more detailed and engaging program for the attendees.

4. If they were aware of the potential consequences, they would probably reconsider their decision to invest in such a risky venture.

5. If I were able to speak multiple languages fluently, I would travel extensively and immerse myself in various cultures around the world.

6. If he were to spend more time studying and less time playing video games, his grades would improve significantly, and he might even qualify for a scholarship.

7. If we had the resources to fund the research, we would be able to explore innovative solutions to some of the most pressing environmental issues.

More rules with the second conditional

In the second conditional, "were" is typically used instead of "was" for all subjects when referring to hypothetical or unreal situations. This usage is a form of the subjunctive mood, which is used to express wishes, hypotheticals, or situations contrary to fact. Here's a deeper look into the issue:

Traditional Grammar Rule: According to traditional grammar rules, "were" should be used for all subjects (I, he, she, it, etc.) in the second conditional:

If I were rich, I would buy a mansion.
If he were taller, he could reach the top shelf.
If she were the president, she would change the law

But you can be less formal and use "was" when speaking with a friend:

If I was rich, I would buy a mansion.

If he was taller, he could reach the top shelf.
