The Nervous System and the Musculoskeletal System

Here you can REVIEW THE EXAM in a Kahoot. On the blog you have all the information. Learn the bones and the muscles.

If you want to enter in the NEW COMPETITION with more questions and timing. ENTER HERE

The nervous system controls everything you do, including breathing, thinking, walking, studying, feeling and all the things that you can do. It controls even your internal organs like the heart or the small intestine.

Joints

A joint (articulación) is a point in the body where two bones of the skeleton come together in a way that allows movement

Did you know you have more than 600 muscles in your body? They do everything from pumping blood throughout your body to helping you lift your heavy backpack.

You control some of your muscles, while others — like your heart — do their jobs without you thinking about them at all.

Muscles are all made of the same material, a type of elastic tissue (sort of like the material in a rubber band). Thousands, or even tens of thousands, of small fibers make up each muscle.

You have three different types of muscles in your body: smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and skeletal muscle.

The Balkan Peninsula is a large piece of land in southeastern Europe. It is divided into many countries, including Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, and the European part of Turkey. Gerunds and Infinitives

Basic Rules:

Sense of smell, taste, hearing and touch

The sense of Smell

One important factor to note about our sense of smell is that there has to be some very tiny particles called molecules from whatever we smell.

Think about cooking food or burning a candle, or spraying a perfume: all these release very tiny molecules that our nose can detect.

The sense of taste

Taste receptors are on the tongue. They are small bumps  called taste buds. There are four basic flavours.

The sense of Hearing

The sense of touch

Gerunds and Infinitives

Gerunds

A gerund is a verb ending in –ing that is used as a noun, either as a subject, object or complement. Examples are: listening, going, looking, moving, etc

For example:

In the sentence "I swim every day", the word "swim" is a verb.

In the sentence "I like swimming", the word "swimming" is a noun.

Therefore, "swimming" is a gerund.

Infinitives

An infinitive is the basic form of the verb + "to".

Examples: to buy, to fish, to run, to watch, to tell, and so forth.

Example Sentences:

"I want to swim."

"They asked us to leave."

"To be, or not to be – that is the question."

"The goal is to win."

The sense of sight: the eye

The eye

The organ of sight transforms electromagnetic waves into electrical signals.

The photoreceptors influence cells that we have inside our eyes.

We perceive shapes, distance, movement, color and depth by our sense of sight. The organ for the sense of sight is the eye, about the shape of a ping-pong ball. The eye alone cannot make sight possible. It works with the brain and on the outside, needs light to be present.

Now, watch this video:

First of all Let’s understand the parts of the eye

The eye has different parts like the cornea, the iris, the pupil, the lens, the sclera, and the retina,

The cornea is like the window that lets light into your eye. It’s transparent.

The iris is the distinctive coloured part of the eye which is uniquely yours. It’s made of smooth muscle tissue located between the cornea and the lens. The iris contracts and expands depending on the amount of light.

The pupil is just the opening in your eye. It’s the black part that you see.

The retina is the inner layer in the back part of your eye.

The retina is the back part of the eye that contains the cells that respond to light. These specialized cells are called photoreceptors. There are 2 types of photoreceptors in the retina: rods and cones.

Scientists believe that each eye has about 120 million rods and 7 million cones. Rods are super-sensitive in the dark, and help us see things in the dark. Cones are active in the light and help us see color.

By the way we have millions of photoreceptors.

These specialized cells are called photoreceptors. There are 2 types of photoreceptors in the retina: rods and cones. The rods are most sensitive to light and dark changes, shape and movement and contain only one type of light-sensitive pigment. Rods are not good for color vision.

The inside of your eye is hollow.

The interaction funcion

Human beings are able to control and coordinate their activities through the interaction function. It enables living things to receive information either from the environment or from their own body through the sense organs and respond to it.
